About the Etsy Competitor Shops by Keyword

Know which shops own your keyword

Listings come and go, but the shops behind them are your real competition. Enter a keyword and this tool lists the Etsy competitor shops that take the most sales on it. For each shop you see how many of its listings match the phrase, its estimated sales and revenue on that keyword, and its share of the total. Every shop name links straight to the Etsy Shop Analyzer for a closer look.

What Etsy competitor research by keyword reveals

  • How concentrated the market is. If the top shop holds a large share, you are up against a specialist. If shares are small and even, the phrase is open to newcomers.
  • How deep the leaders go. A shop with dozens of matching listings covers every variation, while a leader with only a few listings may be winning on one strong design.
  • What the money looks like. Estimated revenue per shop shows whether the keyword can support a real business or only a side income.

Who uses it

New sellers sizing up a market before opening a shop, print-on-demand sellers checking whether a theme is dominated by one large producer, and established shops wondering who has been taking their sales. It is also a fast way to build a list of shops to study for pricing, photography and branding ideas.

Why shop-level data matters

Etsy search takes a shop's track record with customers into account, and successful shops often hold several spots for the phrases they care about. Looking only at individual listings can hide that pattern. Grouping sales by shop shows you who you would actually need to outsell.

Example

Say you are thinking about mama sweatshirts. You run "mama sweatshirt" and, in this example, the top shop has 120 matching listings and about 18 percent of the sales, while the next nine shops each hold between 3 and 8 percent. One shop leads, but no one controls the phrase. Opening the leader in the shop analyzer shows how long it has been on Etsy and how many reviews it has, which tells you how wide the gap really is.

How to read the results

Every row is a shop that sells on your keyword. Listings counts how many of its listings match the phrase. Sales estimates how many orders those listings took over the recent period the report covers, and revenue estimates the money they brought in. Share is the shop's slice of the keyword's sales, shown as a percentage.

Read share first. When the top three shops together hold most of the sales, a new listing has to beat a strong incumbent. When the leader's share is small, sales are spread out and there is room for another seller. Next, compare sales with listings: a shop that sells a lot from few listings has found a product worth studying, while a shop with hundreds of listings and modest sales relies on sheer volume.

A click on a shop name loads its profile in the Etsy Shop Analyzer, so its age, reviews and overall sales are one step away. Every sales and revenue value on this page is an estimate derived from Etsy marketplace data tracked by eMarketInsight.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my competitors on Etsy?
Search the main keyword you sell under. The shops listed are the ones taking the most sales on it, which makes them your direct competitors for that phrase.
How do I do Etsy competitor analysis for free?
Run your keyword here, then open each leading shop in the shop analyzer. Each tool gives you 10 free searches daily before an account is needed, and searches you repeat within an hour are free.
What does share mean in this tool?
It is the part of the keyword's sales that one shop takes. A high share for one shop means the phrase is concentrated, while low and even shares mean it is open.
Can I see how much my competitors make on Etsy?
You can see estimated sales and revenue for each shop on the keyword you search. Both are modelled on Etsy marketplace data tracked by eMarketInsight; the shops themselves do not report them.
Should I avoid a keyword where one shop dominates?
Not necessarily. Look for a narrower version of the phrase that the leading shop covers poorly, or a style and price point it does not serve.
