About the Free Mockup Generator

Product mockups without a photo shoot

Buyers decide from photos, and a flat design file sitting on a white square does not show them what will arrive in the mail. This free mockup generator places your artwork onto a product template and returns an image you can download and add to a listing. It is aimed at print-on-demand sellers who launch many designs and cannot order a sample of each one just to photograph it.

Products you can mock up

  • T-shirt: the usual starting point, and the reason so many sellers look for a free t-shirt mockup generator in the first place.
  • Sweatshirt: handy for autumn and winter listings where a design that works on a tee can also sell on a heavier garment.
  • Mug: shows how a wrap-around or single-side print reads on a curved surface.
  • Tote bag: suits text-heavy designs and simple line art.

Where a mockup fits in a listing

The first photo of a listing is the thumbnail shoppers see in search results, so it carries most of the weight. A clean mockup works well in that spot, followed by a close-up of the artwork and a size chart. For example, a seller launching a botanical line drawing might use a tee mockup as the main photo of one listing, a tote mockup for a second listing, and feed the same design file into both. Keep the product color in the mockup the same as the variant you actually sell, so the photo matches the order.

Before you upload

Every mockup is an AI-generated render, so small details such as fabric folds, shadows and lighting change from one run to the next. You get free daily renders, which leaves room to try another template when the first result is not quite right. Only upload artwork you created or hold the rights to use; putting someone else's design on a shirt in a mockup does not make it yours to sell. Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 px on the shortest side, so begin with a large, sharp design file and check the downloaded image at full size. A clean product mockup for a mug mockup or tee listing starts with a crisp source file, ideally a PNG with no background.

How to read the results

Upload your design, choose the product template and generate. When the mockup appears, look at it the way a buyer scrolling search results would.

  • Placement: the design should sit where a real print goes, centered on the chest of a tee or facing forward on a mug. If it lands too low or too wide, crop the empty space out of your file and run it again.
  • Scale: artwork that fills the entire front can look less believable than a slightly smaller print. Real garments rarely carry a design from seam to seam.
  • Edges: a white or colored box around the design means the file was not transparent. Pass it through a background remover first, then return here.
  • Contrast: dark artwork fades into dark fabric. If the design is hard to see, list it on a lighter garment or prepare a light version of the artwork.

Download the version you like and set it as the first photo. Using the same template across a collection gives your shop a consistent look in search.

Frequently asked questions

Is this mockup generator really free?
Yes. You get free daily renders at no cost. If you reach the daily allowance, it refreshes the next day.
Can I make a t-shirt mockup from a PNG?
Yes. Upload the PNG of your design and choose the tee template. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result because no box shows around the artwork.
Can I use these mockups in my Etsy listings?
Yes, they are made for listing photos. Make sure the design is yours or licensed to you, and that the image shows the product and color you actually ship.
Why does my mockup look a little different each time?
The mockups are AI-generated, so folds, shadows and lighting vary between renders. Generate again if one version does not suit the listing.
Which products can I mock up?
T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and tote bags. Pick the product that matches the item you sell so buyers see what they will receive.
What size should my design file be?
Use the largest clean version you have. Small or blurry artwork produces a soft mockup, and a soft main photo is easy to scroll past.
