Use this Etsy keyword research tool to see demand, competition, opportunity, prices and top sellers for any phrase before you write a title or choose tags.
Every Etsy listing starts with a guess about what buyers type into the search bar. This Etsy keyword research tool replaces that guess with data. Enter one phrase, such as "retro teacher shirt", and you get a single report on demand, competition and what already sells for it. With that in hand you can decide whether the phrase belongs in your title, in your tags, or nowhere at all.
The report is made for print-on-demand sellers, makers and digital product shops who want a free Etsy keyword tool that shows more than a list of related words. It suits new sellers choosing a first product line and established shops checking whether an old keyword still pulls its weight.
A period switch moves the whole report between 7-day, 14-day and 30-day windows. Sales and revenue in the report are estimates built from Etsy marketplace data tracked by eMarketInsight.
Etsy reads your title, tags, category and attributes to decide which searches a listing can appear in. A title has room for 140 characters, and each of your 13 tags can hold 20, so every slot should go to a phrase that real buyers use and that you have a fair chance to rank for. Most good Etsy SEO comes down to spending those slots well.
Suppose you sell shirts for teachers. You type "teacher shirt" and the report shows heavy demand, a competition score in the 90s and an opportunity score under 10. The broad phrase is crowded. You then try "retro teacher shirt" and, in this example, competition drops to around 50 while opportunity climbs above 40, with top listings priced between $22 and $30. The narrower phrase becomes the lead of your title, and the broad one moves to a tag.
Read the report from the top down. Listing views measure how many buyers look at the listings for the phrase; use them to rank phrases against each other rather than as an exact search count. Competition runs from 0 to 100, and lower is easier: scores in the 80s and 90s mean many established shops already fight for the phrase. Opportunity uses the same scale but higher is better, because it rewards demand that is not yet matched by supply. As a reference point, the Etsy Niche Finder on this site only shortlists phrases with opportunity of 55 or more and competition of 45 or less.
The price range shows where sales cluster. If your planned price sits well above it, you will need stronger photos or a clear reason to pay more. In the top listings table, read the titles to see which words lead, and note how far the tenth listing trails the first; a steep drop means a handful of listings take most of the buyers.
The top shops list tells you whether one seller dominates or sales are spread out. Categories show where to place your listing. Finally, switch between 7, 14 and 30 days to see whether demand is building or fading before you commit to a design.
